PSC to Host USA Field Hockey’s Presidents’ Day Field Hockey Showcase
The inaugural Presidents’ Day Showcase field hockey tournament will be held Feb. 13 – Feb. 15 at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch. The event will be focused on showcasing athletes in a competitive club tournament and is anticipated to provide two games per day for each team for a total of six games per team, and more than 350 games over the three-day period. The showcase is one of the two largest hockey events of the year.

“The Presidents Day Showcase is going to be a wonderful field hockey event,” said Karen Collins, USA Field Hockey’s event director. “The venue really is spectacular, the grass is immaculate and will be cut short and fast for field hockey. We are so enthused to be heading to Lakewood Ranch.”

More than 120 U-16 and U-19 teams from all over the country will compete. There will be 87 colleges in attendance, including Boston, Cornell, James Madison, Michigan State, Northwestern, Penn State, Ohio State, Princeton, Rutgers, Syracuse Wake Forest, and Yale universities, the University of Connecticut and University of Michigan.

Games will start at 8 a.m. each day, with the last game starting at 3 p.m. Parking will be complimentary, stewarded and provided on site. Admission will not be charged. The PSC is located at 5895 Post Blvd.

Steve Locke, USA Field Hockey’s executive director, said that they are thrilled to be launching the Presidents’ Day Showcase in 2016.

“We are committed to putting on a spectacular event that will showcase the very best young athletes in our sport,” Locke said. “Our venue and city partners have been hugely welcoming and together we intend to put on an event that will be, in all aspects, ‘premier.’ I would also say that I fully anticipate those participating in the tournament will just love the area. The hotels really are wonderful, the beaches are just minutes away and the (hopefully) warm Florida sun will be welcomed by us all.”

Antonio Saviano, director of sports for the PSC, said that having the opportunity to host the National Field Hockey Presidents’ Day Showcase demonstrates that there are no limits to what types of events the PSC can host.

“It is also another great opportunity to showcase our Lakewood Ranch community,” Saviano said, “and I am certain this Showcase will have significant economic impact at the local and regional levels, as do all of our big events.

“As always, it will benefit our local businesses, such as hotels, retailers, restaurants, and other entertainment venues,” Saviano added.
